Salt Spring Way Pilates
A Life of Balance
Pilates exercise effectively harmonizes the mind and body with a focus on breath and mindful movement. This amazing modality is really about taking the time to tune into your body from exactly where you are, and move in ways that increase flexibility, build strength, and restore alignment.
My name is Reneigh Gerow, and Pilates exercise helped me make a full recovery after sustaining a serious back injury 25 years ago. With a desire to keep Pilates in my body, and to help others, I became a STOTT certified instructor in 2011. I operated and ran a studio in the Shuswap BC, until my husband and our 2 teenage children moved to Salt Spring Island in 2017. I opened 'Salt Spring Way Pilates' right away, and can honestly say, I love teaching STOTT Pilates! It is truly an honour to work with each person. I invite you to join me at my small studio here in the heart of Salt Spring Island, and discover what Pilates can do for you!
Lessons to Live By
Private Reformer and Stability Chair
This popular one-on-one class is based on the belief that mental and physical health are interrelated, and should be conditioned together. Utilizing the STOTT V2 Max Reformer, the Stability Chair, as well as small equipment on the mat, together we create a program designed specifically to meet your needs and goals. All of the classes at Salt Spring Way Pilates attempt to coordinate breathing and physical movement, improve focus and concentration, and help participants regain control of their body and mind.
Duet Mat Pilates
This particular class helps build a strong core from which one can transition into new positions and exercises. The flow centres around control and precision, with a diversity of exercises and modifications to suit a range of levels. Class size is limited to 2 people. If you have a partner, friend or loved one whom you would enjoy Pilates with, this class is designed for you. Using small equipment such a foam rollers, flex bands, various balls and fitness circles, you will learn and practice the tools needed to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle, while remaining mindful in every act you perform.
Straight from the Source
Reneigh Gerow has been my Pilates teacher since the Fall of 2017, when she opened her Pilates Studio on Salt Spring Island. I have taking Pilates classes, off and on for 15 years. Reneigh has been the most thorough and scientific teacher for me. She is enthusiastic in teaching me the proper use of my muscles in a coordinating way, and focus on balance, strength and flexibility. I am 87 years of age. I have had two Total Knee Replacements, in the year 2000. I hope to continue Pilates indefinitely.
Reneigh at Salt Spring Way Pilates is always prepared to start my session, and I always feel good as soon as I enter her studio. Her style is a positive mix of meeting you where you are at and working with you to achieve your goals, with flexibility to work around your energy levels
and any injuries you may have.
New to Salt Spring but not new to Pilates, we’re thankful to have found Reneigh and her Pilates practice. She has a deep understanding of Pilates, muscles and movement, and she tailors each session to our needs. Her studio is deliberately small so the focus is on you and those little details that make Pilates so effective. Reneigh has such a lovely pleasant way about her. We always leave the studio taller and smiling!

Doing Pilates with Reneigh has made me stronger and fitter. And has been a source of deep delight even through the pandemic!
I have been taking Pilates sessions with Reneigh since I moved to Salt Spring two years ago. My sessions with Reneigh are often the highlight of my week. Reneigh is a gentle, kind, wise and attentive instructor who, while working on building my strength, flexibility and range of motion, has also been respectful of my limitations. I am grateful to Reneigh for the care, attention and support I continue to receive from her.
After being an athlete all my young life I have been very frustrated over the past decade by my diminishing fitness level, due to work/lifestyle habits...
Luckily I found Salt Spring Way Pilates! I haven't been taking classes with Reneigh for very long, but already I feel like I am making progress, and getting some of my strength and motivation to work out back!
Reneigh's focused direction and attention to detail in helping me to re-balance my muscle alignment, is also helping me to rehab some old injuries, and I am finally feeling like my workouts are progressing in a good direction again! Now instead of me simply re-training bad habits, I can finally work on training some new good habits and hopefully get back on track!
